Silicone cannot be cleaned as easily as plastic with a simple wipe. There are practical skills for cleaning silicone items, otherwise stains will be hard to remove.
As environmental protection gains increasing attention, silicone products have grown in popularity. However, many people struggle with cleaning them after long-term use, as they are unfamiliar with proper cleaning methods. Today, we will introduce effective cleaning ways and useful tips for silicone products.
Cleaning Methods
Soak a dry rag in water, wring it out thoroughly, and blow it to 90% dry with a hair dryer. Wipe the entire silicone product inside and out first.
For ordinary dirt and dust, dip a small toothbrush in toothpaste to scrub. For oil stains, use a toothbrush with detergent instead.
To remove sticky residues such as glue: Dip a cotton swab in a little essential balm and apply it evenly over the stain, then scrub with a toothbrush. Wipe the product dry with a rag and finish drying with cool air from a hair dryer.
Use professional silicone cleaner, which is available at chemical supply stores.
Wipe off most silicone residue with a damp cloth. Leave it for about one hour until the remaining silicone cures, then rub it off by hand.
Clean with hot water, or add a small amount of banana oil for better results.
Wipe off excess silicone with paper or cloth first before rinsing with water. Do not rinse directly, as it will spread the residue and make cleaning more difficult.
Cleaning Tips
Toothpaste: Rub the silicone product repeatedly with a soft cloth dipped in toothpaste for effective cleaning. Toothpaste works well for daily cleaning.
Eraser: An eraser can remove light dirt. Simply rub the soiled area a few times and rinse with clean water.
Clean water: Rinse with clean water. For grease, apply soap first then rinse thoroughly. Dry the item with a hot air blower; do not expose it to direct sunlight. Note: Excessive cleaning will cause silicone products to turn yellow.
Alcohol: Alcohol is ideal for removing thermal conductive silicone. Dip a soft cloth in alcohol and wipe gently.
For textured or uneven surfaces, use a small soft brush for scrubbing. If stains persist, apply soap and clean again.
For silicone stains on fabrics: Soak the stained part in warm water, knead repeatedly until the stain is gone. Then wash with warm detergent solution and rinse with clean water.
Dip a small brush in xylene and apply it to the silicone residue. Wipe the dissolved silicone with paper towels, then polish the surface with a clean rag.
